Established on August 25, 1986, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) is the first science and technology university in Bangladesh. It was founded on 320 acres of land in Sylhet, in the northeastern region of the country. SUST has become a leading institution in science and technology, celebrating 34 years of excellence and innovation.

  • Inception: Academic activities began on February 14, 1991, with three departments, 13 teachers, and 205 students.
  • Current Structure: SUST now comprises 7 faculties with 28 departments, 2 institutes, 4 affiliated medical colleges, and 1 affiliated engineering college. The university serves over 12,000 students with more than 500 faculty members.

SUST students created an SMS-based automated admission registration system, inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2009. It was also the first university in Bangladesh to adopt the semester system, facilitating international credit transfers.
