Due to the worsening flood situation, the HSC and equivalent exams in the Sylhet division have been postponed until July 8. These exams were initially scheduled to begin on June 30. This decision was made today, Thursday, June 20, during an emergency meeting of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee. The information was later announced in a notice. However, exams scheduled to be held in the Sylhet division from July 9 onwards will proceed as planned.
The Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee stated in the notice that, due to the deteriorating flood situation in the Sylhet region, the HSC and equivalent exams under the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, Sylhet, Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board, and Bangladesh Technical Education Board, scheduled to start from June 30, will remain postponed until July 8. According to the published schedule, exams will resume as usual from July 9. The revised schedule for the postponed exams will be announced later through a notification.
The notice further stated that, except for the Sylhet division, exams under the Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board, Bangladesh Technical Education Board, and the other eight general education boards (excluding the Sylhet Education Board) will be held as per the previously published schedule starting from June 30.
The weekly holiday for all secondary and higher secondary educational institutions under the Ministry of Education was changed from two days to one day. However, it has now been decided to reinstate the Friday and Saturday weekly holidays, keeping schools and colleges closed on these days.
This decision was made today, Thursday, June 20, in a meeting chaired by Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury. Previously, to address gaps in the learning process, the ministry had decided to keep schools and colleges open on Saturdays while closing on Fridays.
In the same meeting, it was also decided to shorten this year’s summer vacation for all secondary and higher secondary educational institutions under the Ministry of Education. Schools and colleges were initially scheduled to reopen on July 3, following Eid-ul-Azha and the summer vacation. However, the reopening date has been moved up to June 26, meaning institutions will be closed only until June 25.
Additionally, reinstating the Saturday holiday will reduce the number of working days. Therefore, it was decided to reduce the summer vacation by one week.
According to the academic calendar, this year’s Eid-ul-Azha and summer vacation started on June 13 and was supposed to continue until July 2.
